Pho is one of the most delicious dishes in the world, this traditional dish is always the pride of Vietnamese national cuisine. People have a tendency to eat familiar dishes such as Pho Bo (Vietnamese Beef Pho Soup), Pho Ga (Vietnamese Chicken Pho Soup)… However, thanks to their creativity, Hanoians have created other dishes such as Pho Chien Phong (fried Pho), Pho Tron (mixed Pho), Pho Xao (stir-fried Pho) … and the most outstanding dish is Pho Cuon (Pho roll with beef).
Pho roll with beef is derived from traditional Pho, and it was firstly sold at Ngu Xa, Nguyen Khac Hieu Street, Hanoi. This restaurant is opened at night to serve football watchers. One day, when a customer came to this restaurant to enjoy Pho, but it ran out of broth, only a few Pho sheets were left. Therefore, they came up with an idea that using Pho sheets to roll with beef, coriander and dipping in fish sauce. After enjoying the meal, the customer really appreciated this creative dish. Pho roll was born.
Being a specialty of Hanoi’s culinary culture, Pho roll is meant to color the culinary picture of a thousand-year-old civilized land, which is increasingly attractive.

Ingredients for making Pho Cuon recipe:
- Pho sheets: 500 grams
- Beef: 400 grams
- Lettuce: 300 grams
- Coriander: 50 grams
- Vietnamese balm: 50 grams
- 1 carrot
- 1 lime
- 1 kohlrabi
Steps for making Pho rolls:
Step 1:
Slice beef. Then, marinate the meat with 1 teaspoon of pepper, 1 teaspoon of salt, 2 teaspoons of sugar, 1 teaspoon of oyster sauce, rest the mixture for 10 minutes to absorb the spices. Next, heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil, add garlic and beef to stir-fry.
Step 2:
Rolling step: add lettuce, vietnamese balm, coriander and beef to the edge of the Pho sheets (as shown below), then roll it tightly.
Step 3:
Prepare dipping sauce: Add 150ml warm water and 4 tablespoons of sugar to a bowl, stir to dissolve sugar. Then, add 4 tbsp of fish sauce, 1 tbsp of lemon juice, carrots and kohlrabi, stir well.
