Beef is a very familiar ingredient to everyone, it is also favored by most eaters in normal or luxurious meals. When it comes to dishes made from beef in Vietnam, foreign people will immediately think of Pho bo (beef noodle soup) or Bun Bo Hue (Hue beef noodle soup). About the overseas dishes, people will remember the steak first. However, in Vietnam, there is another variation of beef, that is called beef salad.
Being different from other dishes, in which beef is usually fried with cooking oil, beef salad is well-blended dish between vegetables and meat. That creates a balance for all senses and satisfies the customers. Moreover, beef salad can be listed in the menu for those with low-fat or diets.
Sometimes we will be confused between dried beef salad which is sold on the sidewalk and beef salad.The difference is that this beef salad is made from fresh ingredients and can be considered as a main dish. With simple ingredients such as green bananas, star fruit, carrots and the main ingredient that is indispensable is fresh beef, the cook can easily make fresh beef salad for their family.

Ingredients for Vietnamese beef salad recipe
- Beef: 400 Gr
- Garlic: 15 Gr
- Seasoning: 1 Tbsp
- White Sugar: 2 Tbsp
- Pepper: 1/2 Tbsp
- Cooking Oil: 1 Tbsp
- Lemon juice: 40 ml
- White sugar: 80 Gr
- Fish sauce: 80 ml
- Lemon juice: 40 ml
- Garlic: 15 Gr
- Chili pepper: 15 Gr
- Green banana: 150 Gr
- Starfruit: 150 Gr
- Pineapple: 100 Gr
- Carrots: 100 Gr
- Onion: 100 Gr
- Chili: 10 Gr
- Herbs: 30 Gr
- Fried dry onions: 15 Gr
- Peanuts: 15 Gr
- Roasted sesame seeds: 10 Gr
Steps for making beef salad
Step 1
How to marinate beef: Thinly slice 400gr beef, marinate beef with 15g minced garlic, 1 tablespoon of seasoning, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1/2 tablespoon of ground pepper, then mix well. The secret to make beef salad more delicious and not dry is to add 1 tablespoon of oil when marinating, wait for 30 minutes. After marinating, put the beef in a hot pan, stir-fry the meat until it is medium rare, take the beef out of the pan and set aside.
Step 2
Peel off green banana, remove the border of green star fruit, cut it into thin slices. Slice pineapple. Cut the carrots into long and thin pieces.
Step 3
Soak star fruit and green bananas in dilute salt water to prevent star fruit and banana from turning black. Thinly slice 100g of onion, add 1 tablespoon of sugar, 10 ml of lemon juice and squeeze it to reduce the pungent taste. Keep the onions in the refrigerator to keep them crunchy.
Step 4
Make fish sauce for mixing beef salad: 80g sugar, 80ml fish sauce, 40ml lemon juice. Add all of them in 1 bowl and stir. Finally add 15gr minced garlic, 15gr minced chili and stir well.
Step 5
How to mix beef salad: 150gr star fruit, 150gr banana, 100g carrot, 100g pineapple, 100g onion, 10gr sliced chili. Sprinkle fish sauce on top of the salad and mix well. Next, add the beef, 30ml of lemon juice and mix again. Finally, add 30g of chopped herbs, 15g of onion, 15g of peanuts and 10g of roasted sesame.
Step 6
The beef salad is really attractive, with sweet and sour taste as well as tender and delicious beef. The beef is well-marinated and cooked in medium heat so it retains its natural tenderness. Vegetables are both sweet and sour taste with a little spiciness of chili. That makes all eaters satisfied.
